In December 2017, the City of San Luis Obispo recognized local history teacher Duskin Hobbs, and Courtney Haile of R.A.C.E. Matters, for their roles in creating “SLO Welcomes” decals! This Initiative was created in direct response to the national rise in violence and hate speech towards people of color, religious minorities, immigrants and refugees, and the LGBTQ community. Hobbs and Haile noticed similar decals going up in larger West Coast cities, and felt that especially as a largely homogenous city - SLO needed to take a proactive step.
We also have "SLO County Welcomes" decals available, and both are for sale at Len Collective at 715 Higuera Street in SLO. Proceeds pay for more decals to be printed and also come back to R.A.C.E. Matters.
